Well I died too many times before I’d taken my first step
You thing that I’d be fearless, but I wouldn’t, make that bet I’d like to once be the hero, oh, so many ways Verse 2
I’ve been in love; I’ve been to heaven, once to hell and back
I’ve had some good employment and even got the sack I’ve tried hard to be the leader, oh, so many ways Lift
but I’ve never been that brave
but I’ve never lost control Verse 3
All my life I’ve been too frightened, to fly without a net
Someone who could catch me, so I’d plead innocence I’d like to once be so fearless, in oh, so many ways Chorus
So many times,
I’ve said it to myself you - can’t - be – that From deep inside, Voices screaming out, you - can’t - be Lift
but I’ve never been that brave
but I’ve never lost control Verse 4
Yes I’ve take all my dreams and squashed them all to death
Repressed them all so tightly they’ve taken their last breath I’d like to once be so fearless, in oh, so many ways Solo
Chorus
So many times,
I’ve said it to myself you - can’t - be – that From deep inside, Voices screaming out, you - can’t - be Song story
This is by far the most autobiographical song I’ve ever written, born 2 months premature in 1962 I died a number of times before I was three months old.
